Author Interview with Megan Slayer

Happy Sunday, folks! Hope everyone's having a chilled-out weekend. I'm currently in isolation in the kitchen while Nero records a podcast episode, but I have a plentiful supply of tea, and I'm getting some words down for Chaos Songs, so it's all good. While I get Lola and Tris into trouble, how about an interview? Megan Slayer is here with her recent release, HER SIR. Let's find out what it's all about!

Hi, Megan! Tell us a little bit about your newest release.
Her Sir is a hot little story about two people who belong together, but don’t realize they do until it seems like it’s too late. It’s a realistic story. I guess that’s why I like it so much. The characters are people you might know. Andi is an artist and she has an ex who is a drip. Dean is a Dom and a member of the local city council. There’s bdsm heat and heart involved. Oh and a mention of vibrators.

Gotta get those vibrators in! (No pun intended). Do you have a favourite genre to write in?
I like to write contemporary because I like that the story could happen. I like to put myself, via the characters, in those situations. It’s fun.

Who are your biggest influences – they don't have to just be literary ones!
Oh golly… well… writing-wise, it would be Harper Lee. I loved To Kill a Mockingbird and Go Set a Watchman. She wrote well, even when she needed an editor. Plus, she lead such an interesting life. Another would be my third grade teacher, Mrs. Jason. She said I’d do something interesting and creative with my life. She encouraged me to think outside the box. When she found out I’d become a writer, she said she wasn’t surprised and thought that’s what I’d do with my life. That stuck with me.

Encouraging teachers are awesome - I definitely had a couple who pushed me to further my reading and writing, and it was invaluable. Changing directions a bit - if you could have dinner with any three writers, living or dead, who would they be?
Harper Lee, Truman Capote and John Lennon. Mostly because I’d love to hear Capote and Lennon argue. Lol!

Lol, definitely one to be a fly on the wall at! Are there any books you can just read over and over again and never get sick of?
To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
Regularly Scheduled Life by KA Mitchell
Anna Faris is Unqualified by Anna Faris

Okay, I have to confess I've never read To Kill A Mockingbird. Time to add it to my list, clearly. If you could recommend any book (beside your own) to everyone reading this, what would it be?
Regularly Scheduled Life by KA Mitchell. The book involves the aftermath of a school shooting and two men dealing with their feelings. It’s couple-y, sweet, tough and tender.

Sounds good, and highly relevant for modern life right now. Okay, the hard ball question. Tea or coffee?
Neither. I never acquired the taste for either. Makes coffee dates awkward. 😊

Gasp! How do you function without tea? Apart from writing, what are your great passions in life?
Being a mom to a tot, dogs and cats, being a partner and creating art. I love to draw. 😊

Sounds awesome :) And what else are you working on right now? What's up next from you?
I’m currently working on the story that follows Her Sir. It’ll be called His Girl. After that…I’m not sure. I’ve got notebooks full of stories I want to follow through with. I’ll pick one that speaks to me and away I go. 😊

Ah, the writer's notebook. It's a blessing and a curse! Okay, so that's Megan. Now, how about a look at HER SIR?

There’s only one man for Andi—her Sir.

Andi McCarron knew the moment she met Sir’s gaze, he’d change her life forever. Despite other Doms wanting her as their sub, she only submits to him because he knows how to make her skin tingle. The pain delivered from his crop makes her spirit sing. She needs Sir but she wants more—except he’s not interested in taking the relationship outside of the club. What’s a girl to do when the man of her dreams, the one wielding the crop, won’t leave the club?

Dean Meyer craves his sweet sub, Andi. She fills his dreams and fantasies, but she wants a relationship. He’s not sure she can handle both his demons and secrets. Still, he can’t deny the attraction to her. When fate throws them together, he has to make a choice—give his sub what she needs or let her go for good.

“You control everything,” she blurted. Her cheeks reddened, and she bowed her head. “Sorry. But you do.”
“Actually, you do. When we play, you’re the one in control. You say stop or slow, and I follow. I push you, but you tell me when you’re done. I’ll encourage you to stretch your boundaries, but only because I want to make you fly.” He pushed the cooling coffee to the side. “If you say no, then I respect your decision.”
“You expect me to kneel.” She flattened her palms on the table. “Like that last time.”
“I wanted to show off my beautiful woman. If you’d have said no before we left the private area, I would’ve stayed out of the main room.” He leveled his gaze at her. “I expect a partner. You were my best partner.” He hadn’t taught her very well if she thought she was second rate. When they played again—and they would be—he’d show her what he meant.
“You have one. A partner. I saw the demonstration,” she said. “You replaced me.”
“Slow down.” He hadn’t known she was at the club when he’d done the demonstration or he would’ve plucked her from the audience. “Which demo?”
“There’s more than one?”
“I don’t have a permanent sub, so I’m expected to do demonstrations for visitors, for the videos … for people who want to play the voyeur. That’s part of my job at the club.” Not his favorite part and he couldn’t wait to pass the torch to someone else, but he’d tell her that later. She managed to aggravate him like no other. He wanted to stretch her ass across his lap and spank the sass out of her. Then he wanted to kiss her until she collapsed. He wasn’t one to settle down, but she made him think twice. In her own way, she’d broken him.
“I thought we had something.” She turned her cup around. “Now I understand I was just another client.”
“I never said that. Never thought it,” he said. She’d been special from the start. He loved the way she felt in his arms, the way she moaned during a scene, the flicker in her eyes just before she came…
“Then why replace me? Why not tell me how you felt?” she asked. “Or have you come to this realization now that we’re not at the club?”
“First, I didn’t replace you. I don’t have any one sub I play with. The girls in the video are one and done. No sex, just demonstration and go. I haven’t found anyone who can fill your place. I’ve had a couple offers, but they aren’t you.” They shouldn’t be having this conversation in public, but she needed reassurance. “Would you like to have dinner with me tonight?”

Author Interview - Jen Katemi is Crossing the Line!

Happy Friday, folks! No flashback post today. Having ignored the whole blog thing for a week or so while I dealt with some personal stuff, I'm now playing fast and loose (not that there was every much structure here to begin with) and bringing you something different. Today we've got Jen Katemi here for an interview about her latest release, CROSSING THE LINE! Pull up a chair and make yourselves at home.

Tell us a little about your newest release.
Crossing the Line is my first release with Evernight Publishing, and the first under my new pen name, Jen Katemi. This ménage (MFM) romance about a married couple trying to inject some spice back into their lives is also an Evernight Editor’s Pick - a great way to start!

Here’s the blurb:

Love is always a risk…but some decisions in this dangerous game come with consequences.

Tam
I’d do anything to keep my wife Julia happy…until her proposal for a sexy ménage tryst threatens everything I thought I knew about us, and our relationship.

Julia
I adore my husband Tam, but in this dangerous high-stakes game am I risking too much for the future of our marriage?

Dominic
Tragedy took my wife and left me in a shattered mess. I’ve been running from commitment ever since, until Tam and Jules reach out. There’s no denying the chemistry that flares between us, but has our night of kinky threesome sex pushed us just that little bit too far?

Sex. Love. Marriage. A ménage gamble puts everything on the line.

Crossing the Line releases August 8th.

Sounds intriguing! Do you have a favourite genre?
My favourite genre to write is erotic romance. Sometimes contemporary, sometimes paranormal or fantasy romance, but always high heat, and always with either a happy-ever-after or a happy-for-now ending. Sex plus emotional angst is my comfort zone.

In terms of reading, I read across many different genres - erotic romance, contemporary, urban fantasy, suspense, thriller, young adult… pretty much everything except horror. I do like an element of romance though, in everything I read.

I love a good dose of angst in my reading, I have to confess. So, the important question - tea or coffee?
Definitely coffee, especially when I’m writing! Hot, black and sweet.

I can really only drink coffee if it's loaded with cream and syrup...which makes me think it's not the coffee I like... Moving on! What three ingredients do you consider an absolute necessity to writing a hot sex scene?
A physical connection between the characters – the sexual chemistry – is a must. But above and beyond that, an emotional connection adds something special and transforms a standard sex scene into one that is far more meaningful. Finally, I’d say an element of fun.

Apart from writing, what do you do in “real life”?
In “real life”, I’m a mum of two, step-mum of two, a wife and a slave to various cats. I work in admin at a university in my home town of Melbourne, Australia, and while I do enjoy my day job, writing is my passion. If I could afford it financially, I’d write full-time!

I hear you there! I'm also in admin at a university. Small world! :) What else are you working on right now? What’s up next from you?
As Jen Katemi, I’m hard at work on my next submission to Evernight - also a ménage romance. Fingers crossed it comes together nicely and the acquiring team at Evernight love it! I also have a billionaire romance (sexy, not erotic) titled Tempt, that will be out in a multi-author boxed set this month.

As Jennifer Lynne, I have a series of short erotic stories rolling out over the next three months, all of which push the envelope a little when it comes to kink. The Forbidden series includes stories centered on loving relationships that explore different aspects of kink. If you like bondage, spanking, voyeurism or ménage stories, with a healthy dose of romance, please check it out!

Find out more about my Jen Katemi books at: http://www.JenKatemi.com/ or my Jennifer Lynne titles at: http://www.Jennifer-Lynne.com/

Thank you so much for having me to visit, and for letting me share a little about my first Evernight release.

Thanks, Jen! Hopefully this gives everyone an idea of what to expect when they pick up CROSSING THE LINE...but in case you need more persuading to check out Jen's work, read on for a closer look...

Author Interview - Ravenna Tate and A Flogging Fantasy!

Welcome one and all to an author interview and a spanking. Kind of. Ravenna Tate is here to tell us about her newest release, book three in her popular The Spanking Experiments series. A FLOGGING FANTASY follows PADDLED BY THE TEACHER and SPANKED INTO SUBMISSION. Check those reviews and see what readers are loving about this series! And then come back and read Ravenna's interview to find out a bit more!

Hi, Ravenna! Tell us a little bit about your newest release.

A FLOGGING FANTASY is the third book in The Spanking Experiments series, and features a heroine who has had serious fantasies of plain mixed with pleasure.

Is there any part of this story you absolutely love, and why?

I love the chemistry between Asa and Glynis. These were two characters who made it easy for me to write hot sex scenes for them.

Do you have a favourite genre to write in?

I love writing darker romance.

Right! And readers who love reading it should check out your Tortured Love series, too. Are there any genres you haven't tried yet that you really want to?

I just wrote and submitted my first MC romance!

Perfect! MC romance is one of my favourites, as a reader and a writer. Looking forward to learning more about that one. If you could have dinner with any three writers, living or dead, who would they be?

Harper Lee, Stephen King, and J.K. Rowling

Are there any books you can just read over and over again and never get sick of?

To Kill A Mockingbird, Mansfield Park, The Other Side of Midnight, and A Wrinkle In Time

Confession: I haven't read any of those! Clearly time to add them to my TBR pile. If you could recommend any book (beside your own) to everyone reading this, what would it be?

Anything Evernight Publishing has released!

Excellent answer ;) Now, the hardball question: tea or coffee?

Coffee

I always say I'm not a coffee drinker, but recently I've been loving iced coffee, so I guess I can allow your answer to pass. Apart from writing, what are your great passions in life?

Living it to the fullest, every single day

And finally, what else are you working on right now? What's up next from you? You're pretty prolific!

I’ve just submitted my first MC romance, and have six planned in that series. I also have a six-book spin-off series planned, and there will be seven more books in The Spanking Experiments

Awesome! Good luck with the MC romance, and I can't wait to see what's next from The Spanking Experiments. Hopefully this has whetted people's appetites for your work, but in case anyone needs more convincing, keep reading for a closer look at A FLOGGING FANTASY!

Author Interview - Lee Piper is here to rock your world!

Happy Saturday, folks! If, like me, you've spent most of the past week ploughing through your TBR pile, you probably fancy a new book. And you probably fancy a new book even if you haven't, because books! Well, I've got one for you. The second in Lee Piper's Mondez series, ROCK MY BODY. Want to get to know Lee and her hot rock star a little better? Read the interview and then check out the saucy excerpt below!

Hi, Lee! Let's start by hearing a little bit about your newest release.
Rock My Body is Book #2 in the Mondez series and runs parallel with Book #1, Rock My World. Each novel is based on one of the four men from the band, Mondez, however is written from the perspective of the women who ultimately bring them to their knees.
I’m really passionate about eradicating the stigma surrounding mental health, so I decided to write a novel from the viewpoint of a heroine who has been medically diagnosed with Anxiety. It’s a great way to not only highlight the (many) challenges of this illness but to also celebrate the strength of someone who lives with it, through humour and music.
Fantastic. I'm passionate about championing mental health and the way we approach it here in the UK, so this idea really entices me. Was there any part of this story you found particularly tough to write? If so, why?
The hardest thing about writing Rock My Body was the fact I was pregnant with severe morning sickness (19 weeks, people. 19 looooong weeks) while also trying to work full time and raise a three year old. It was so unbelievably hard. Strangely, I was really happy with the manuscript itself, it was just the extenuating circumstances surrounding its creation which really knocked me around!

Well, at least that must have been a sign the book was on the right track! Do you have a favourite genre to write in?
I love, love, love writing contemporary and erotic romance. I’m not a fan of traditional romance, and can’t stomach the thought of writing, throbbing members or quivering thighs, in any of my manuscripts. Ever. I like my romance honest, real and with a healthy dose of alpha.
To be honest, I'm not even sure what a quivering thigh would really look like, but probably not that sexy, so fair enough! Who are your biggest influences – they don't have to just be literary ones!
In all honesty, my biggest influences are the authors I admire. The fact that there are so many ridiculously talented people out there who can transport readers to another world through the turn of a phrase, is truly mind blowing. And it doesn’t stop there. Every word chosen has been so carefully thought out, edited and then edited again. There’s so much blood, sweat and tears behind every book published and this willingness to share a part of oneself with the world, is beyond brave.

Music also plays a massive role. And I’m talking the heavy rock kind—the louder the better. For every book I write, I have a soundtrack. Cog’s, The New Normal was the album which I listened to religiously while writing Rock My World. Whereas Dead Letter Circus was on repeat while writing Rock My Body, and Twelve Foot Ninja (all awesome Aussie bands btw) is what I’m listening to at the moment while writing the third book in the series, Rock Me.

Fab, new bands for me to check out! If you could recommend any book (beside your own) to everyone reading this, what would it be?
Just one? Wow, that’s tough! I would really recommend Stephen King’s, On Writing. Not only is this man a heck of a lot funnier than I ever gave him credit for, but he understands the mechanics behind writing brilliantly. Better yet, he’s able to explain these concepts through examples from his and other writer’s work in a way which is heaps easy to comprehended. This book is super inspiring too because he wrote it after his accident and explains how writing helped him survive his darkest days.

I do love On Writing. I'm probably due a re-read of it. What else are you working on right now? What's up next from you?
Rock My Body is being released on June 3 through Evernight Publishing and I’m currently working on Rock Me, Book #3 in the Mondez series. This book is hil-ar-i-ous, I’m having so much fun writing it. The main character, Katrina, is an absolute crack-up. Her band, Adrift, has recently been signed with a major record label and is on their first tour with the boys from Mondez. Many, many shenanigans ensue. Enough said.
Who doesn't love shenanigans? Thanks, Lee! Now, folks - read on for a closer look at ROCK MY BODY!

Riley Sears promises herself never to fall in love unless it's going to end in an engagement ring and a white picket fence—her medically diagnosed anxiety skyrockets otherwise.

Enter Dominic Mondez, the hottest guy ever to grace pecs and abs. He propositions Riley with a cocky yet tempting offer of the best sex of her life—his words. However, after learning he’s a manwhore who never sleeps with the same woman twice, Riley's decision becomes remarkably simple.

No. Way. In. Hell.

He is a commitment phobe; she needs commitment. End of story.

Sadly, traversing the murky waters of friends without benefits isn't simple, especially when he's lead guitarist of local rock band, Mondez. Riley is also cautious of his tempestuous nature, womanising ways and—even worse—inexplicable jealousy. He is bad for her in every possible way.

Bad, bad, bad.

If only her body would listen.

Author Interview - Lynn Burke is here to Fulfill you ;)

Say hello to Lynn Burke! She's here this evening to chat about her new release, FINDING FULFILLMENT. We're covering all the important stuff - her favourite genres to write, her favourite scene in the book, and whether she prefers tea or coffee. And after the interview, there's a teaser from FINDING FULFILLMENT for you to sink your teeth into. Enjoy!

Hi, Lynn! Tell us a little bit about your newest release.

Finding Fulfillment is the third installment of my Found by Fate series which follows along with three co-workers. It covers quite the range of subgenres!

Finding Forever, Bad Boy Anthology with Roane Publishing, - Contemporary Erotic, Bondage
Finding Freedom – Menage, MMF
Freedom Found (a free read) – Menage, MMF
Finding Fulfillment – Contemporary Erotic, Spanking, Bondage

Great, so if people fall in love with this book, they know there's more waiting for them! Is there any part of this story you absolutely love, and why?

I loved the scene where Archer does a little test to see if Jade is turned on by him dominating her. Writing a scene of dialogue in present tense of him creating a scene in her mind...so fun!

Sounds steamy...Nice. Do you have a favourite genre to write in?

Not really. I write historical sweet romance and fantasy under my real name, and Lynn enjoys everything from BDSM to Menage with a little MMF on the side.

So leading on from that, are there any genres you haven't tried yet that you really want to?

I’m considering a historical erotic or erotic fantasy, a blend of all of my loves!

Who are your biggest influences – they don't have to just be literary ones!

Roni Loren and Keri Lake. J.R. Gray’s Tumblr acct is a fun one as well. ;)

Now, the hard ball question. Tea or coffee?

Chai tea every morning for me!

I love chai tea! I have a pumpkin chai that's absolutely divine. Apart from writing, what are your great passions in life?

Gardening – a TIME SUCK in spring – and cooking/baking.

So now we know a bit more about Lynn, how about finding out a bit more about FINDING FULFILLMENT? Keep reading!

Author Interview with Kory Steed!

Today I'm delighted to welcome debut author Kory Steed to the blog! His m/m romance, FROM LIGHTNING TO LOVE, just came out and is already racking up some great reviews, so if you like the sound of it from Kory's interview, be sure to check it out! And without further ado, let's find out more about Kory and the book itself.

Hi, Kory! Tell us a little bit about your newest release.

From Lightning to Love is a 72K word novel and my first publication. It’s the first installment in my Lightning Series. The story begins with an introduction to Jason, a gay, thirty-seven year old former American army medic who served two tours during Operation Desert Storm between 1991 and 1993. In 1994 he received a medical discharged for PTSD.

After leaving the service, Jason worked in a local hospital’s ER for a few years, but he became more and more disillusioned with his life because he had to live it in secrecy. On a whim, he bought a lottery ticket and won. Now a multi-millionaire, he used his winnings to purchase a secluded tract of land in the Bear River Mountains in southeastern Idaho where at the time that the story begins, he has lived for eleven years.

We meet the second main character, twenty-three year old Aaron, the morning after a violent autumn storm when Jason began to check his home and property for damage. He discovered Aaron dangling by a shredded parachute in a tree. We later learned that Aaron was the newly signed, star quarterback for a fictitious American professional football team. Because of the remote location, there was no way for Jason to get help, so he had to care for Aaron alone while he recovered from his injuries.

I intentionally created this scenario because it forced Jason and Aaron to interact only with each other, without any influence from the outside world. Once I had accomplished this, the story unfolded organically. There was no plot or outline during the entire writing of the manuscript.

It sounds like a really intense story. Was there any part you found particularly tough to write? If so, why?

There were several but the most difficult part was the letter that Jason wrote to Aaron. The most difficult scenarios, of which there were quite a few, were the medical scenes because I had to really think about injuries, procedures, protocols, and diagnoses so that I could convey them convincingly in layman’s terms.

It's clear that this novel was a labour of love for you! Is there any part of this story you absolutely love, and why?

There were quite a few of these. I really enjoyed writing the military courtroom scene. I had a blast making the corpsman squirm in the witness chair, and I loved putting the prosecuting attorney in his place. I also had a lot of fun with the Captain while she explained the anatomy of the male reproductive system and the fluids it produces to the court.

Aside from the interaction between Aaron and Jason as the story progresses, my absolute favorite scene was when Jason went out to the barn to talk to the oldest of his two donkeys, Nellie. I relate strongly to that scene because as a child, I often confided in my pets.

Same! Actually, my cat knows all my secrets. So, do you have a favourite genre to write in?

I’ve only had this one novel published, and though I’ve always loved and read hundreds of science fiction and fantasy novels, I think I’ll primarily stick with gay themed genres because I believe in the adage, “write what you know.”

As an extension to that question, are there any genres you haven't tried yet that you really want to?

I am toying with the idea of either science fiction or fantasy, or possibly even both for that matter, sometime down the line, but for now, I’ve planned to include around five novels in my Lightning Series. I’ve all ready written the first drafts of books two and three and right now, I’m working on editing book two.

What attracts me to sci-fi and fantasy is, like with From Lightning to Love, but on a much grander scale, that an author can create the world or worlds the characters will occupy and by doing so, can provide then with environments where they can do things and things can happen, that couldn’t happen in our world.

You mention sci-fi and fantasy. Who or what are your biggest influences – they don't have to just be literary ones!

In the acknowledgments for From Lightning to Love, I wrote:

“To the many, many people and animals I have known over the course of my lifetime who have allowed me to love and care for them, who I have worked with professionally, or whom I have treated during my career, you have each touched my heart, left an indelible mark on my mind, or my soul. I have learned from you how to live my life, just as often as I have learned how not to, for you have inspired me to be a better person, a better friend, or a better healer. I hope this story does you and your memories justice.”

I dearly meant every word.

Another influence on my writing was a man who I briefly pay homage to in the novel, Gordon Merrick. He died in 1988. Though his first book was published in 1947, he wrote the first widely read gay novels in the early 1970’s. They were a trilogy. The first was The Lord Won't Mind which was on the New York Times Best Seller list for sixteen weeks in 1970. It was followed by One for the Gods and Forth into Light in 1971 and 1974 respectively. When I read them I thought to myself, “Wow, he’s writing about gay men as if they’re ordinary people, just like me.”

Shortly after I began writing From Lightning to Love, I remembered Gordon Merrick. I began to focus on what he was able to accomplish, writing a story about gay men who are normal people.

That's fantastic - and definitely something we need more of. Switching it up a bit, if you could have dinner with any three writers, living or dead, who would they be?

Wow, this is a very unfair question, and it really made me think. I’ve settled on, and am listing them in the order in which I read them. Of course, Gordon Merrick, also David Brin and Anne McCaffrey. If I was permitted two more they would be Dean Koontz and J.K. Rowling.

Anne would be a pick for me, too. I still love and re-read her Pern books. Are there any books you can just read over and over again and never get sick of?

The three above noted Gordon Merrick novels, David Brin’s duel novel Earthclan that contains Startide Rising and The Uplift War, Dean Koontz’s Watchers and Strangers and Anne McCaffrey’s The Tower and the Hive series: The Rowan, Damia, Damia's Children, Lyon's Pride, and The Tower and the Hive.

If you could recommend any book (beside your own) to everyone reading this, what would it be?

Because I’m very new to writing, I began in May of 2016, I haven’t read many recently written gay novels, even though that’s where my passion is right now, and I wouldn’t want to offend any of my new author friends. I can tell you that I have literally dozens of their gay novels downloaded in my Kindle that I’m aching to read, but I’m a slow reader when it comes to someone else’s work because I really immerse myself in a book to figuratively suck the marrow out of it.

I’ll have to say, Earthclan by David Brin. It blew my mind!

Now, the hardball question. Tea or coffee?

Oh, coffee, hands down, all day long (milk and a pinch of sugar)! I do drink tea when I’m sick with honey and lemon; with scones, tea biscuits, or Irish Soda Bread (Twining’s English Breakfast with honey and milk), with Chinese food (black), or iced in the summer beginning after noon with sugar and mint.

Boo! Tea should always be the answer (but maybe that's the Brit in me speaking). Apart from writing, what are your great passions in life?

Cooking and baking (and eating), watching movies, observing nature, feeding birds, and listed last, but first in my heart, my partner, Mark.

What else are you working on right now? What's up next from you?

Finishing the second novel manuscript in my Lightning Series edited and submitting to my publisher.

Thanks, Kory - some great answers there! If you want to find out more about Kory and the Lightning Series, you can check out the links below:
