Beat the Monday blues with Gale Stanley

Happy Monday! Hopefully everyone is fully rested after a great weekend and ready to fling themselves headfirst into the week. And if not, that doesn't matter! You can take it at your own pace, after all. Either way, you're probably looking for something to read, right? Well, Gale Stanley is always here to help!

OFF-LIMITS Sanctuary 1

Heat Rating: SCORCHING
Word Count: 21,584
[Siren Classic ManLove: Erotic Alternative Contemporary Paranormal Romance, shape-shifter, M/M, HEA]

Blurb

When Quinn Hart’s best friend died, he became guardian to the man’s ten-year- old son, Noah Stone. So far, Quinn has been able to conceal the growing attraction he feels for Noah, but now Noah is twenty-two and returning home from college. Honor still holds Quinn back from revealing his true feelings. Their community of bear shifters consider reproduction a priority, and Quinn fears they would never accept a homosexual relationship.

Noah has always hidden his romantic feelings for his guardian, but now he’s a man, and his desire is stronger than ever. Unable to handle his feelings, Noah leaves Oregon for a position in a research facility. But when Noah arrives in New York, he discovers his employer is harvesting bear bile and he’s the new source.

Quinn is determined to find Noah. But can he admit what he really wants before it’s too late?

Excerpt

Home. Noah had forgotten how much he missed the endless expanse of lush green landscape and the sparkling river. And the trees. Especially the trees. When the leaves whispered in the wind, it made Noah’s heart ache. Whoever had named their small town knew that trees were sanctuaries.

But for all that, home wasn’t a place, it was a person—Quinn. Noah could live anywhere with Quinn. But a life with Quinn was as likely as a sharknado ripping through Sanctuary.

Noah moved away from the window and gazed at his reflection. The mirror was wall mounted and speckled in places. The frame matched the wood dresser beneath it. A handknitted brown and tan spread covered the crude pine bed. The room had been decorated on a meager budget, but it was warm and comforting because Quinn had handcrafted all the furniture himself.

Noah’s bedroom hadn’t changed since he was a kid. Yesterday, when he’d first stepped through the door, he’d felt the walls close in on him. As a kid, this room seemed huge, but now that he was a man, he could see how small it really was. It felt surreal like turning back the clock, but not in a bad way. If only he could—

“Where’s the man of the hour?”

The sound of loud voices traveled up the stairs. More guests had arrived for the party. The community was small, but when everyone attended an event, it could be overwhelming. Noah checked his image in the mirror again. He’d already changed shirts several times, and he still wasn’t sure that he liked the blue chambray shirt he’d put on with his khakis. Why am I making such a big deal out of this? He felt like Marcus primping for one of those stupid frat parties. What difference did it make what color shirt he wore? Stop stalling, he told himself. You can’t stay in your room forever.

Noah stood at the top of the stairs. Below, friends and neighbors were chatting excitedly. Noah had nothing to say to them. He would disappoint them. Anxiety made his stomach churn.

Flashback Friday - Elyzabeth M Valey is back!

It's time once again to welcome both Friday, and a guest author! Say hello to Elyzabeth M Valey, who I'm always happy to see here on the blog. You know I love her recent release, BREAK ME, so I'm excited to look at another series of hers today. Get ready for the Alpha Protectors!

Alpha Protectors, 2

Kaila is His. His Mate. Forever.

When Seamus discovers Kaila is in danger he sets out to save her. He couldn’t care less that she doesn’t want him there. His objective in life is to love and protect her. Besides, she might refuse to be with him, but her body knows better. With both their lives on the line, she can’t say no to his aid, can she?

For years, she has ignored her feelings. Kaila’s mission was supposed to be easy: enter the demon’s lair and save her sister. Then, he came along. For close to twenty years she has been fighting against the mating pull. She has avoided Seamus at all costs, but now they’re both trapped in hell and she has nowhere to run, except, maybe, into his arms.

Excerpt:
“Wait up, Kaila.”

She didn’t acknowledge him, and he rushed to catch up with her. He grasped her wrist, spinning her around with force.

“Didn’t you hear me?” he asked.

Kaila’s gaze narrowed. Her lips pursed into an ugly grimace.

“Let go of me, Seamus. Why don’t you let this weak human die already?” She poked him
in the chest with her index finger. “I didn’t ask for your help.”

Seamus scrubbed a hand over his face. “What is wrong with you? You’re not making any sense. I know you didn’t ask for my help. I gave it freely, but you aren’t going to deny that we are different, are you?”

“Fuck you.”

Blinding rage took over him. Seamus dug his fingers into her arm. He was tired of all this nonsense. He pulled her closer. Her arm shot out to keep him away, but not fast enough. He swooped down and claimed her lips. She gasped, and he seized the chance to push his tongue into her warm recess. He groaned. She tasted better than he remembered. For a brief moment, she grappled with him, attempting to break lose, but he grabbed her arms with ease and held them behind her back.

He twisted his tongue around hers, drawing it out from its reluctance and forcing it to battle with his. Something in his chest tightened as she responded. Yes. He sucked and tugged and demanded more. She gave it to him. Her body arched against his, her mouth seeking his with almost as much desperation as he possessed. His hold on her slackened.

He wanted to touch her everywhere. To press his lips to her body and taste every inch of her. His hand trailed to the curve of her ass, then to her waist. Then, bang! Her knee slammed against his leg. He released her, cursing. He’d probably be incapacitated for life if she’d hit her mark.

“Fuck you, Seamus.”

“Whenever you want, babe. I know you’ve got the hots for me, even if you just tried to castrate me and failed miserably.” He laughed.

Kaila spun and walked away from him again. She was probably not trying to be sultry, but her hips swayed in that way that drove a man to stare. She lifted her arm and gave him the finger. He grinned. She was pissed and sexy. He loved it.

Seamus took in a shaky breath. Watching her back on her feet, her spirit alive and surging, was soothing. He rubbed at the spot where she’d kneed him. It hurt, but it was proof that she was herself again, not lying in a puddle of blood, shredded to pieces by a monster. He glanced at the Dream Catcher’s skeleton out of the corner of his eye. He hadn’t told Kaila the details of what he’d suffered inside the beast. The images of her dead body, broken, destroyed. He didn’t wish his worst enemy a fate like that.

He stretched his wings and snapped them back into place. Even they ached. He adjusted his now-flaccid cock and shuddered. He hurried after Kaila. The place appeared deserted. There were no scones in the wall giving off light. Instead, the walls themselves seemed to pulse with energy. They glowed from the inside as if behind them a relentless flame burned. He frowned. He extended his arm and placed his pinkie on the rock. It burned.

“Damn it.” He put the digit in his mouth, hoping to sooth the sting. “Don’t touch the walls, babe. They’re hot.”

Kaila didn’t reply, but she moved a little closer to the center of the path.

Guest Blog - Rats!

Yes, rats. When I saw Shari Elder's newest release featured a rat-shifter hero, I was instantly sold. I can't think of many books where rat-shifters feature at all, with Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake series being the first that springs to mind. And although her rats are pretty much good guys, they're never presented as love interests or even main players - they're kept on the periphery of Anita's life for the most part. So I was fascinated by the idea of a paranormal romance that puts rats front and centre, and makes one a hero. I wanted to know more! And Shari has kindly obliged me. So say hello to Evan Grant!

Thank you for having me on your blog today. My paranormal romance, Unnatural Allies (Book #2 Shifting Alliances), features a rat alpha shifter as a hero.

As a writer, the real thrill in writing a rat alpha as a hero, is the freedom it gave to explore the parameters of an alpha.  How far could I stretch that definition?  How many beta-like characteristics could I sneak in and still maintain him as a leader who commanded respect of bigger, stronger predatorial shifters?

Lets’ start with what he looks like. Evan Grant is lean, with smaller muscles and shorter stature and a facial twitch (think rat with whiskers) we don’t tend to associate with heroes. While he is physically significant among other rat shifters, he pales in size to predators. He can be a deadly fighter, but prefers to use strategy and diplomacy over weapons and fists to solve conflict.  He’s humble, letting people assume he’s a local shopkeeper, when he is CEO of an international franchise.  He also reads and writes poetry and craves intimacy. His commitment to his pack, however, makes it hard for him to have a steady lover, a spiritual pain he carries everywhere like one would a phone.

Now that you know what he looks like, I think the best way to understand Evan is to meet him so I’m sharing an exclusive excerpt below.

Although the hunter doesn't need convincing, his mate certainly does. The Alpha will have to prove himself as a lover and convince his woman that he plays for keeps.

Author Interview - Doris O'Connor

I'm always happy to have Doris here on the blog! And today we're not just getting a look at the latest in her Projects series, CLAIMING HIS HUMAN, but having a chat with Doris too! So without further ado, let's get stuck in...

Welcome to the blog, Doris! Tell us a little bit about your newest release.

Claiming his Human is book six in The Projects series. I actually got the idea for the story from the latest Evernight Anthology call, but it very quickly became apparent, that I had a much longer story on my hands than was allowed word count wise for the antho. So that idea went out of the window and I let the story develop as it needed to. It ended up over 50 K in the end and was such fun to write. Bear shifters are my absolute fav heroes to write about. Might have something to do with the fact that hubby is known as Papa Bear in my house. ;-)

Here is the blurb:

Shifters defend their mates to the death...

Bear shifter Darius Longton never expected to find his mate in his favorite coffee shop, but one sniff of her scent in the air is all it takes for his bear to know the truth. This delicious, sinfully curvy redhead is his.

Too bad she’s human and far too fragile for his volatile bear.

Holly Trent cannot understand the instant attraction she feels for this man. One look from his heavy-lidded eyes is all it takes to set her knickers aflame with lust. However, she will not be another notch on his bedpost, no matter how much his voice alone makes her want to sink to her knees.

But when a customer gets heavy with her, everything changes. Darius’s defense of her places them both in terrible danger. Thrown headfirst into shifter council politics, it falls to Holly to save her mate.

Be Warned: BDSM, anal sex, spanking

That is less a warning than an invitation! Was there any part of this story you found particularly tough to write? If so, why?

Well, not tough per se, but my editor is half convinced that I only write shifters so that she cannot pull me up on the amount of growling my heroes do.

I do like a man who growls...

*whistles innocently*

It would appear however, there was too much growling even for a shifter story, so I had to prune quite a few in edits.

It's ellipses for me! I'm forever being told I need to cut back, but I just...can't...help myself. Is there any part of this story you absolutely love, and why?

Oh, so many of them. Darius is just yummy and Holly was a fantastic heroine to write about. She has so much spunk, and she’s not afraid to put these big bad Alpha shifters in their places. I giggled a lot when I was writing, as she has some of the best lines. This was one of them.

“You two furry Neanderthals can stop sniggering, too. This isn’t remotely funny. It’s—”

The combined enraged growls of their respective bears filled the van. Darius had to marvel at Holly’s response. Where was the frightened stiff young woman of yesterday? Nowhere to be seen, that’s for sure because this new, much more assertive version rolled her eyes and mimicked a yawn.

“Save your posturing for whatever hapless female you’re trying to impress. It won’t work on me. Besides, I know damn well you can’t touch me, so give over and shut up.”

A no-nonsense heroine is always a bonus for me. So we know you love bears, but do you have a favourite genre to write in?

Hmm, that depends on my muse. She is currently on a shifter fix, and I do love writing shifters. However, I also really enjoy contemporary. My muse is like a demented gnat at times, and I’m a complete slave to her, so I write whatever takes her fancy.

Are there any genres you haven't tried yet that you really want to?

I would love to try my hand at a YA story, but I can’t see it happening anytime soon. My characters can never keep their hands off each other!

Who are your biggest influences – they don't have to just be literary ones!

My gran. She was a truly amazing woman, and if I’m half the woman she was then I’m doing okay. I still feel her influence every day, and I just know she would be so proud of my writing.

Now, the important question. Tea or coffee?

Coffee in the morning and during the day. Copious amount of tea in the evening.

Apart from writing, what are your great passions in life?

My family and my furbabies. I couldn’t imagine life without any of them.

Nope! Everybody needs a furbaby :) What else are you working on right now? What's up next from you?

Well, I did mention my demented muse, right? She has me writing three different stories at the same time right now. Alien Warriors, a Vampire, and a Dragon shifter.

*head desk*

Plenty of other stories in the works. I have the start of the next book in The Projects, more books in The Cleaners, and my Spectrum Auctions series and whatever standalone my muse will conjure up.

I'm guessing with so many projects on the go, it won't be long before Doris's next release, but in the meantime, CLAIMING HIS HUMAN is available now from: Evernight  Amazon  Amazon UK Bookstrand

And read on for a very NSFW excerpt!
